Cappella Amsterdam behoort tot de absolute vocale top van Nederland. Het kamerkoor zingt repertoire van Palestrina tot Pärt en weet met hun unieke klank elke keer weer te excelleren. Zeker onder leiding van Daniel Reuss, die al sinds 1990 chef-dirigent is van Cappella Amsterdam behoort het koor tot de beste kamerkoren ter wereld.
Rachmaninovs Vespers
De Vespers van Sergei Rachmaninov zijn gebaseerd op oude Russisch-orthodoxe melodieën. De dramatische zetting, de symfonische omvang en de grote virtuositeit zorgden ervoor dat het werk niet zozeer in de Russisch-orthodoxe liturgie zijn weg vond, maar zeer geliefd werd op de concertpodia. Rachmaninov laat de tijd stilstaan in deze bijna bovennatuurlijke muziek. De diepe sonoriteit van de bassen, de prachtige melodieën en warme harmonieën maken het een van de meest geliefde koorwerken.

Sergei Rachmaninov’s Vespers are based on ancient Russian Orthodox melodies. The dramatic setting, symphonic scope and great virtuosity ensured that the work became very popular on the concert stages, instead of into the Russian Orthodox liturgy. Rachmaninov makes time stand still in this transcendent music. The deep sonority of the basses, the beautiful melodies and warm harmonies make it one of the most beloved choral works.
