De mystiek van Pärt en Bach
De Nederlandse stervioliste Simone Lamsma en Candida Thompson, artistiek leider van strijkersensemble Amsterdam Sinfonietta, slaan de handen ineen in muziek van Johann Sebastian Bach en Arvo Pärt. De muziek van Arvo Pärt wordt ook wel beschreven als een spirituele ervaring voor zowel de luisteraar als de musici: het is gedragen, meditatief, en herbergt de weemoed van de Noord-Europese cultuur waaruit Pärt voortkomt. Het middelpunt van dit concert is het geliefde ‘Tabula Rasa’, dat Pärt schreef voor twee soloviolen, strijkersensemble en piano. Het is een van de eerste stukken die de componist schreef in zijn tintinnabuli-stijl: een minimalistische manier van componeren waarbij hij zich liet inspireren door zijn mystieke ervaringen met zangkunst. Bach, die meer dan 3 eeuwen eerder hoofdzakelijk componeerde voor de protestantse kerk, schreef zijn muziek met bijna wiskundige precisie: niet minimalistisch zoals Pärt, maar compact en vol contrapunt. Hoe goed beide muziekstijlen op elkaar aansluiten laat Amsterdam Sinfonietta tijdens dit concert horen. Naast de solopartijen in Tabula Rasa nemen Lamsma en Thompson ook de solorollen op zich in Bachs dubbelconcert BWV 160. Oorspronkelijk geschreven voor viool en hobo laat deze versie horen dat twee violen in klankkleur en mogelijkheden niet onder doen voor het origineel. Ook het Sinfonia uit de cantate BWV 21 van Bach, een klassieker uit het repertoire van Amsterdam Sinfonietta, mag tijdens dit concert niet ontbreken.

Simone Lamsma
Violiste Simone Lamsma is niet meer weg te denken uit de internationale muziekwereld en speelt als solist en in recitals over de hele wereld. “Absoluut weergaloos”, noemde de Chicago Tribune haar spel. Ze soleerde bij onder andere de New York Philharmonic, het London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, het Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg en het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest. Simone Lamsma speelt op de ‘Mlynarksi’-Stradivarius uit 1718, die ze in bruikleen heeft.

The mysticism of Pärt and Bach
Dutch star violinist Simone Lamsma and Candida Thompson, artistic director of string ensemble Amsterdam Sinfonietta, join forces in music by Johann Sebastian Bach and Arvo Pärt. Arvo Pärt’s music has been described as a spiritual experience for both the listener and the musicians: it is buoyant, meditative, and embodies the melancholy of the Northern European culture in which Pärt grew up. The heart of this concert is the much-loved Tabula Rasa, which Pärt wrote for two solo violins, string ensemble and piano. It is one of the first pieces the composer wrote in his tintinnabuli style: a minimalist way of composing inspired by his mystical experiences with the art of song. German composer Johann Sebastian Bach, who composed mainly for the Protestant church more than three centuries earlier, wrote his music with almost mathematical precision: not minimalist like Pärt, but compact and full of counterpoint. Amsterdam Sinfonietta shows how well the two musical styles complement each other in this concert. In addition to the solo parts in Tabula Rasa, Lamsma and Thompson also take on the solo roles in Bach’s double concerto BWV 160. Originally written for violin and oboe, this version shows that two violins are in no way inferior in timbre and possibilities to the original. The Sinfonia from Bach’s cantata BWV 21, a classic in the repertoire of Amsterdam Sinfonietta, is also a vital part of this concert.
Simone Lamsma
Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma has become a household name on the international music scene, playing as a soloist and in recitals all over the world. ‘Absolutely stunning’, the Chicago Tribune called her playing. She has performed as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, among others. Simone Lamsma plays the 1718 ‘Mlynarksi’ Stradivarius, on generous loan to her by an anonymous benefactor.
