Pop, jazz en Turkse muziek met strijkers
Ieder jaar in januari treedt Amsterdam Sinfonietta buiten de gebaande paden en nodigt het strijkersensemble een artiest uit een ander muziekgenre uit voor een cross-over muzikale samenwerking. Dit jaar is het de eer aan Karsu, die als zangeres en singer-songwriter met haar unieke mix van pop, jazz en Turkse muziek al jaren de harten steelt van menig muziekliefhebber. De Nederlands-Turkse muzikante is een ware duizendpoot met een groot maatschappelijk engagement: niet alleen won ze een Edison voor haar album Colors en treedt ze wereldwijd op met haar muziek, ook speelde tijdens de coronacrisis wekenlang voor coronapatiënten in het VUmc en zette ze zich met hart en ziel in om geld om te halen voor de slachtoffers van de aardbeving in Turkije in 2023. Ze brak bij het grote publiek door met haar deelname aan het programma ‘Beste Zangers’ in 2021, waarna haar vertolking van de nummers Hijo de la Luna en Je Suis Malade bovenaan de hitlijsten belandden. Verwacht een concert waar het beste van twee werelden samenkomen: de poëtische wereldmuziekpop van deze eigenzinnige zangeres wordt naadloos aangevuld met zwoele klassieke strijkersklanken van het allerhoogste niveau.

Each year in January, Amsterdam Sinfonietta steps off the beaten track and invites an artist from another musical genre for a crossover musical collaboration. This year, the honour goes to Karsu, who has been stealing the hearts of many music lovers for years as a singer and songwriter with her unique blend of pop, jazz and Turkish music. The Dutch-Turkish musician is a true jack-of-all-trades with a great social commitment: not only did she win an Edison for her album Colors and performs her music worldwide, she also played for covid patients in the VUmc hospital during the covid crisis and put her heart and soul into raising money for the victims of the 2023 earthquake in Turkey. Her big break came when she participated in the ‘Best Singers’ tv programme in 2021, after which her renditions of the songs Hijo de la Luna and Je Suis Malade topped the charts. Expect a concert where the best of both worlds come together: the poetic music of this unique singer is seamlessly complemented by sultry classical string sounds of the highest level.
