After a string of successful performances on London’s West End, South African Road Trip now comes to the theatre with their brand new show: ROOTS!

ROOTS! is packed with music that comes straight from the heart. Join them on a unique and authentic journey through South Africa and immerse yourself in the rich traditions of the beautiful Xhosa culture.

These fourteen musicians and dancers from Cape Town perform full of passion and energy and tell compelling and personal stories. They take us back to their origins. Candid and heart-warming stories about everyday life alternate with stories about the history of South Africa. What were they taught about religion and traditions at home? What does the struggle for freedom in South Africa mean to them? How do they look to the future? And what binding role does music play in their culture?

Traditionals, played on authentic instruments, are alternated with well-known songs such as Miriam Makeba’s Pata Pata, Fast Car by Tracey Chapman and Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles. Songs that, surprisingly, are also part of our roots.
