Over de roman
Ali en Nino wordt vaak de Romeo en Julia van het Midden-Oosten genoemd. Ali is een moslimjongen die verliefd wordt op het christelijke meisje Nino. Hij is Azerbeidzjaans, zij is Georgisch. Hij is van adellijke afkomst en haar vader is zakenman. Deze verboden liefde speelt zich af tegen de achtergrond van de Russische Revolutie en onderzoekt de dilemma’s die voortvloeien uit de Europese overheersing van een oosterse samenleving.

About the Novel
Ali and Nino is often called the Romeo and Juliet of the Middle East. Ali is a Muslim boy who falls in love with the Christian girl, Nino. He is Azerbaijani, she is Georgian. He is of noble descent, and her father is a businessman. This forbidden love takes place against the backdrop of the Russian Revolution and explores the dilemmas arising from European domination over an Eastern society.
