Olivier Patey is soloklarinettist van het Concertgebouworkest. Hij is een van de beste klarinettisten ter wereld, die niet alleen om zijn orkestspel, maar zeker ook om zijn kamermuziekkwaliteiten wordt geroemd. Hij neemt voor Schuberts grootse Octet een aantal orkestcollega’s met zich mee: Andrea Cellacchi en Fons Verspaandonk zijn respectievelijk solofagottist en hoornist van het orkest. Daarnaast is ook Pateys vrouw Diet Tilanus van de partij. Diet is violiste bij Amsterdam Sinfonietta en zij nodigde een paar van haar strijkersvrienden uit Amsterdam Sinfonietta en Het Muziek. Amsterdam Sinfonietta meets Concertgebouworkest in de Aalmarktzaal.
Schubert Octet
Met een bezetting van klarinet, hoorn, fagot, twee violen, altviool, cello en contrabas valt het nog net in de categorie kamermuziek, maar wie een klein symfonieorkest voor zich ziet, heeft ook een punt. Schubert beschouwde dit Octet dan ook als een schets voor een grote symfonie – net zoals Beethoven zijn Septet – Schuberts model voor dit Octet – gebruikte als voorbereiding op zijn Symfonie nr. 1. Schuberts Octet is een van de absolute hoogtepunten van het kamermuziekrepertoire. Tussen kamermuziek en symfonie componeerde Schubert een grandioos werk vol diepgang, licht en energie.

Olivier Patey is the principal clarinettist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. He is one of the world’s finest clarinetists, renowned not only for his orchestral playing but certainly also for his chamber music skills. For Schubert’s magnificent Octet, he brings along several orchestral colleagues: Andrea Cellacchi and Fons Verspaandonk, the orchestra’s principal bassoonist and horn player, respectively. Patey’s wife, Diet Tilanus, is also present. Diet is a violinist with Amsterdam Sinfonietta and has invited several of her string player friends from Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Het Muziek. Amsterdam Sinfonietta meets Concertgebouw Orchestra in the Aalmarkt Hall.
Schubert Octet
With a lineup of clarinet, horn, bassoon, two violins, viola, cello, and double bass, it just barely falls into the chamber music category, but anyone who imagines a small symphony orchestra has a point. Schubert considered this Octet a sketch for a grand symphony—just as Beethoven used his Septet—Schubert’s model for this Octet—as preparation for his Symphony No. 1. Schubert’s Octet is one of the absolute highlights of the chamber music repertoire. Between chamber music and symphony, Schubert composed a magnificent work full of depth, light, and energy.
