Babar is een olifantje dat bij een lieve oude dame opgroeit in de stad. Maar is hij daar wel het gelukkigst? Hoort een olifantje wel in de stad te wonen? Samen met zijn vriendjes Arthur en Céléste beleeft Babar dolle avonturen en leert hij zijn eigen weg te vinden. Hoe zou dit avontuur eindigen?
De Nieuwe Philharmonie blaast letterlijk en figuurlijk nieuw leven in het verhaal van Babar. Céline de Brunhoff verzon Babar als ‘verhaaltje voor het slapengaan’ voor haar kinderen en haar echtgenoot Jean maakte er prachtige illustraties bij. Het werd als prentenboek uitgegeven in 1931 en componist Francis Poulenc verklankte het verhaal naar muziek. Tjeerd Bischoff en Johannes Leertouwer maakten een nieuwe Nederlandse versie van dit geliefde muziekverhaal. Hierin komen de muziek van Poulenc en de illustraties van Jean de Brunhoff op het podium samen met het verhaal over Babars avonturen, verteld door actrice Anna Raadsveld.
Babar (6+) is een ontroerende en beeldende voorstelling voor de hele familie, waar kinderen spelenderwijs kennismaken met alle kleuren die een orkest tot klinken kan brengen.
Anna Raadsveld en Tjeerd Bischoff
Anna Raadsveld is een Nederlandse actrice. Ze studeerde aan de Toneelacademie Maastricht en speelde bij onder andere het Nationale Toneel en Internationaal Theater Amsterdam. Op het witte doek was ze te zien in onder andere de film Hoe duur was de suiker (2013) en verschillende (jeugd)films zoals Timboektoe (2007) en Riphagen (2016).
Tjeerd Bischoff is schrijver en acteur, en studeerde aan de Amsterdamse Toneelschool. Hij schreef theaterteksten voor onder meer Theather Artemis, Tryater en Bellevue Lunchtheater.

The young elephant Babar lives in the city with a sweet old lady. But is he truly happy there? Does an elephant belong in the city? Together with his friends Arthur and Céléste, Babar has fun adventures and learns to find his own way. How will this adventure end?
The Nieuwe Philharmonie literally and figuratively breathes new life into the story of Babar. Céline de Brunhoff invented Babar as a ‘bedtime story’ for her children and her spouse Jean created beautiful illustrations to go with it. It was published as a picture book in 1931 and the famous French composer Francis Poulenc translated the story to music. Tjeerd Bischoff and Johannes Leertouwer have made a new Dutch version of this beloved musical story. In it, Poulenc’s music and Jean de Brunhoff’s illustrations come together on stage with the story of Babar’s adventures, as told by Dutch actress Anna Raadsveld.
Babar (6+) is a touching musical and visual performance for the whole family, where children are playfully introduced to all the musical colours an orchestra can produce.
Anna Raadsveld and Tjeerd Bischoff
Anna Raadsveld is a Dutch actress. She studied at the Institute of Performative Arts in Maastricht and among others performed with the Nationaal Theater and Internationaal Theater Amsterdam (ITA). On the big screen, she appeared in films including Hoe duur was de suiker (2013) and several (youth) films such as Timboektoe (2007) and Riphagen (2016).
Tjeerd Bischoff is a Dutch writer and actor, who studied at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. He wrote texts for Dutch theater groups such as Theater Artemis, Tryater and Bellevue Lunchtheater.
