Babar, het kleine olifantje
Babar is een olifantje dat bij een lieve oude dame opgroeit in de stad. Maar is hij daar wel gelukkig? Hoort een olifantje wel in de stad te wonen? Samen met zijn vrienden Arthur en Céléste beleeft Babar spannende avonturen en leert hij zijn eigen weg te vinden. Hoe zou dit verhaal eindigen?
Het orkest de Nieuwe Philharmonie blaast letterlijk en figuurlijk nieuw leven in de avonturen van Babar. De Parijse Céline de Brunhoff verzon de belevenissen van het olifantje Babar in 1931 als ‘verhaaltjes voor het slapengaan’ voor haar kinderen. Haar echtgenoot Jean de Brunhoff maakte er de inmiddels wereldberoemde illustraties bij. Het werd als prentenboek uitgegeven en componist Francis Poulenc verklankte het verhaal naar muziek. De Nieuwe Philharmonie brengt samen met verteller Nienke Nasserian het tijdloze verhaal van Babar tot leven en laat kinderen kennis maken met prachtige klassieke muziek. Een feest voor jong en oud!
Nienke Nasserian
Nienke Nasserian is zangeres en klassiek muziektheatermaker. Ze schitterde in onder andere de kinderopera’s De theorie van alles (De Nationale Opera), en HANS & GRIET (2021), een co-productie van Toneelmakerij en Silbersee. Daarnaast was ze te zien in onder andere muziektheatervoorstelling Het Zomeroffer (2024) van De Warme Winkel, Touki Delphine en Asko|Schönberg, PLEIN (2023), een co-productie van Wunderbaum en Theater Rotterdam. In het najaar speelt ze in de kinderopera Goud! (De Nationale Opera & Opera Zuid) & Lennox (De Nationale Opera).
Nienke Nasserian is naast uitvoerend zangeres ook maker. RISE, een zelfhulpopera ging in 2023 in première tijdens Wonderfeel Festival, na het winnen van de Keep an Eye Productieprijs met haar voorstelling MTOTO. MTOTO vormt samen met MASAI en MZUNGU een autobiografisch drieluik. Met MASAI, geregisseerd door Naomi van der Linden, won ze in augustus 2016 de Entreeprijs op Theaterfestival Boulevard.

The young elephant Babar lives in the city with a sweet old lady. But is he truly happy there? Does an elephant belong in the city? Together with his friends Arthur and Céléste, Babar has fun adventures and learns to find his own way. How will this adventure end?
The Nieuwe Philharmonie literally and figuratively breathes new life into the story of Babar. Céline de Brunhoff invented Babar as a ‘bedtime story’ for her children and her spouse Jean created beautiful illustrations to go with it. It was published as a picture book in 1931 and the famous French composer Francis Poulenc translated the story to music. Tjeerd Bischoff and Johannes Leertouwer have made a new Dutch version of this beloved musical story. In it, Poulenc’s music and Jean de Brunhoff’s illustrations come together on stage with the story of Babar’s adventures, as told by Dutch actress Anna Raadsveld.
Babar (6+) is a touching musical and visual performance for the whole family, where children are playfully introduced to all the musical colours an orchestra can produce.
Anna Raadsveld and Tjeerd Bischoff
Anna Raadsveld is a Dutch actress. She studied at the Institute of Performative Arts in Maastricht and among others performed with the Nationaal Theater and Internationaal Theater Amsterdam (ITA). On the big screen, she appeared in films including Hoe duur was de suiker (2013) and several (youth) films such as Timboektoe (2007) and Riphagen (2016).
Tjeerd Bischoff is a Dutch writer and actor, who studied at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. He wrote texts for Dutch theater groups such as Theater Artemis, Tryater and Bellevue Lunchtheater.
