Dit concert is een samenwerking met de Strijkkwartet Biënnale Amsterdam.
Wat is mooier dan een strijkkwartet? Twee strijkkwartetten! Daarom vroeg het Doric Quartet hun vriendin Liza Ferschtman om drie strijkers mee te nemen en met hen het podium te delen. Samen spelen ze twee van de mooiste stukken voor dubbel strijkkwartet van Golijov en Enescu.
Doric String Quartet & Festivalvrienden
Het Doric String Quartet was al vaker te gast bij ons in Leiden, hun concerten zijn telkens weer een openbaring. Elegant en gebalanceerd, maar ook gedurfd en energiek. Hun spel is werkelijk ‘top of the bill’. Dat vond ook Liza Ferschtman, die hen daarom naar Delft haalde, toen ze artistiek leider was van het Delft Chamber Music Festival. Daar bloeide een mooie vriendschap op tussen haar en ‘de Dorics’. Nu delen ze het podium, samen met drie van hun meest geliefde festivalvrienden. Omdat primarius van de Dorics Alex Redington helaas verhinderd is, zal hij tijdens dit concert vervangen worden door violiste Charlotte Spruit.
Haydn, Golijov en Enescu
Het Doric String Quartet begint bij het begin met een kwartet van Jozef Haydn, de grondlegger van het strijkkwartet. Pure muziek, helder en gebalanceerd. Het Octet van Osvaldo Golijov is van een andere orde: de Argentijnse componist met Joodse achtergrond combineert klassieke muziek, klezmer en tango in muziek die dwingend, urgent en ontzettend pakkend is.
In het Octet van George Enescu is elke strijker een solist. Met zijn uitbundige virtuositeit is het een favoriete festivalafsluiter.

What is more beautiful than a string quartet? Two string quartets! That’s why the Doric Quartet asked their friend Liza Ferschtman to bring three string players and share the stage with them. Together they will play two of the most beautiful pieces for double string quartet by Golijov and Enescu.
Doric String Quartet & Friends
The Doric String Quartet has been a guest in Leiden before, their concerts are a revelation each time. Elegant and balanced, but also daring and energetic. Their playing is truly top of the bill. This was also the opinion of Liza Ferschtman, who brought them to Delft when she was artistic director of the Delft Chamber Music Festival. There a beautiful friendship blossomed between her and ’the Dorics’. Now they share the stage, together with three of their most beloved festival friends.
Haydn, Golijov en Enescu
The Doric String Quartet begins at the beginning with a quartet by Jozef Haydn, the founder of the string quartet. Pure music, clear and balanced. Osvaldo Golijov’s Octet is of a different order: the Argentine composer with Jewish background combines classical music, klezmer and tango in music that is compelling, urgent and incredibly catchy. In George Enescu’s Octet, each string player is a soloist. With its exuberant virtuosity, it is a favorite festival closer.
