Arethusa Quartet, Chen Halevi en Natacha Kudritskaya

In this matchless concert, the Arethusa Quartet puts the spotlight on Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov. To do so, they invited renowned clarinet player Chen Halevi and acclaimed pianist Natacha Kudritskaya to join them on stage.

Osvaldo Golijov 

Osvaldo Golijov’s music is a genre on its own. As the child of a Romanian piano teacher and a Ukrainian doctor who had emigrated to Argentina, he grew up among classical (chamber) music, Jewish liturgical music, klezmer, not to mention the tangos of Astor Piazzolla. In Golijov’s unique sound world, all these styles come together without becoming like a patchwork: they blend together effortlessly. 

The colorful, uplifting and moving clarinet quintet The dreams and prayers of Isaac the blind is a grandiose revelation and the extraordinarily moving Tenebrae is of a timeless quality. It was inspired by Couperin.  

Arethusa Quartet

Daniel Rowland, Floor Le Coultre, Dana Zemtsov and Maja Bogdanovic have been performing together for years, but can now be heard under their brand-new name the Arethusa Quartet. In addition to Golijov’s music, they will play music that influenced Golijov, such as Couperin’s Pièces de clavecin and music that, like Golijov’s work, is based on Jewish sounds, such as Prokofiev’s Overture on Hebrew Themes. The emotional piece Daughters of Sol, composed for string quartet by Iranian composer Aftab Darvishi, completes this special programme.
