    Trouw

Amsterdam Sinfonietta | Lucie Horsch blokfluit | Daniel Bard leiding & viool

In a varied and compelling program without intermission, Amsterdam Sinfonietta plays pieces for recorder and strings from baroque to contemporary. A journey from Italy via England to Hungary, with as theme works in which the composers translate different musical traditions into their own sound world.

The Italian composer Nino Rota uses folk-like melodies in his Concerto for Strings, the Hungarian composer Béla Bartók gives a refreshing twist to virtuoso Romanian dances. Discover the spectacular Uhrovska collection from 1730: a treasure consisting of 350 melodies revealing Eastern European traditional music. True to the oral tradition, only melodies were documented at the time, the accompaniment was improvised. In line with this practice, Amsterdam Sinfonietta made its own arrangements, with room for improvisation and making use of the virtuoso power and expressive melancholy of this music. The melodies of the Uhrovska collection are linked with parts from a trio sonata by Telemann, who discovered the “barbarian beauty” of Polish and Moravian music and incorporated it into his music.
