Hadewych van Gent
Met haar stem en cello creëert de Nederlandse celliste en zangeres Hadewych van Gent een eigen, kenmerkende klankwereld. Als avontuurlijke en veelzijdige muzikante beweegt ze zich langs de randen van de klassieke traditie en daarbuiten. Op 17-jarige leeftijd maakte Hadewych haar solodebuut in het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Sindsdien heeft ze als soliste en kamermusicus opgetreden in toonaangevende zalen, waaronder het Konzerthaus Berlin, de Barbican Hall, de Royal Albert Hall en St. Martin-in-the-Fields in Londen. Ook in eigen land blijft ze niet onopgemerkt: in 2025 werd Hadewych genomineerd van de Grachtenfestivalprijs, komend seizoen maakt ze haar debuut als solist in de Zaterdagmatinee van het Concertgebouw Amsterdam. Buiten de klassieke muziek speelde ze eerder met de band Coldplay en Grammy-winnares Laufey. Al deze invloeden neemt ze mee in het ontwikkelen van een eigen artistieke stem, en zet ze zich in voor het verbreden van het repertoire voor cello en zang, waar ze in dit concert een verrassende selectie uit speelt.

In dit concert staan drie verstilde maar intens expressieve werken centraal. Ernst Reijsegers Colla Parte, klinkt in een bewerking voor cello en zang waarin beide stemmen elkaar volgen, spiegelen en soms tegenspreken. Daarna klinkt de solistische kracht van Gaspar Cassadó’s Solo Suite: een kleurrijk stuk vol Spaanse invloeden, virtuositeit en lyrische momenten. Tot slot voert The Book, II Pianissimo van de Letse componist Pēteris Vasks naar een bijna fluisterende wereld. In deze meditatieve muziek staan stilte, adem en klank centraal. Samen vormen de werken een intieme reis langs dialoog, expressie en verstilling.

Hadewych van Gent
With her voice and cello, Dutch cellist and singer Hadewych van Gent creates her own distinctive soundscape. As an adventurous and versatile musician, she explores the edges of the classical tradition and beyond. At 17, Hadewych made her solo debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Since then, she has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in leading venues, including the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Barbican Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London. She has also made a name for herself in her own country: in 2025, Hadewych was nominated for the Grachtenfestival Prize, and next season she will make her solo debut in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam’s Zaterdagmatinee. Outside of classical music, she has previously performed with the band Coldplay and Grammy-winner Laufey. She incorporates all these influences into the development of her own artistic voice, and is committed to broadening the repertoire for cello and voice, from which she plays a surprising selection in this concert.

This concert focuses on three tranquil yet intensely expressive works. Ernst Reijseger’s Colla Parte, performed in an arrangement for cello and voice, features the two voices following, mirroring, and occasionally contradicting each other. This is followed by the soloistic power of Gaspar Cassadó’s Solo Suite: a colorful piece full of Spanish influences, virtuosity, and lyrical moments. Finally, The Book, II Pianissimo by Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks transports us to an almost whispering world. Silence, breath, and sound are central to this meditative music. Together, the works form an intimate journey through dialogue, expression, and stillness.
