In twee concerten op vrijdag 20 januari 2023 en vrijdag 28 april 2023 voeren violist Shunske Sato en pianist Shuann Chai alle tien de vioolsonates van Beethoven uit. Een minimarathon in twee etappes.

Beethovens Vioolsonates
Met zijn tien vioolsonates zette Ludwig van Beethoven de standaard voor alle componisten na hem. Want in deze muziek komt alles samen: wonderschone melodieën, heerlijke virtuositeit en – voor het eerst in de muziekgeschiedenis – een volstrekt gelijkwaardig partnerschap tussen pianist en violist. Van de vroege Mozartiaanse Vioolsonate nr. 1 tot de avontuurlijke Vioolsonate nr. 8: Beethovens vioolsonates blijven nog altijd favoriete werken op de concertpodia.
Shunske Sato & Shuann Chai
Misschien kent u Shunske Sato als opvolger van Jos van Veldhoven als artistiek leider van de Nederlandse Bachvereniging of als concertmeester van Concerto Köln. Met Beethoven heeft hij een diepe band: Sato was de jongste violist ooit die Beethovens Vioolconcert uitvoerde in het beroemde Beethoven Festival in Bonn. En Shuann Chai weet als pianist op zowel de moderne vleugel als de fortepiano precies welke toon ze moet treffen bij Beethovens sonates.

Beethoven’s Violin Sonatas
With his ten violin sonatas, Ludwig van Beethoven set the standard for all composers after him. Because in these sonatas everything is combined: wonderful melodies, delightful virtuosity and – for the first time in music history – a completely equal partnership between pianist and violinist. From the early Mozartian Violin Sonata No. 1 to the adventurous Violin Sonata No. 8: Beethoven’s violin sonatas remain favorite pieces on concert stages.
Shunske Sato & Shuann Chai
You may know Shunske Sato as the successor to Jos van Veldhoven as artistic director of the Nederlandse Bachvereniging or as concertmaster of Concerto Köln. He has a deep bond with Beethoven: Sato was the youngest violinist ever to perform Beethoven’s Violin Concerto at the famous Beethoven Festival in Bonn. And Shuann Chai, as a pianist on both the modern grand piano and the fortepiano, knows exactly what tone to strike in Beethoven’s sonatas.
