Fortune
Hoe vinden we zingeving wanneer niets voor eeuwig is? Waar vinden we geluk als gelukkig zijn ook maar een momentopname is? Hoe leven we in het hier en nu als de volgende uitdaging al om de hoek staat? Vanuit een fascinatie met deze ‘impermanence’, de vergankelijke aard van de natuur waarbij nooit iets vaststaat of ooit af is, is de dansvoorstelling Fortune ontstaan.
De universele wet van verandering is dat niets hetzelfde blijft. Onze keurig geasfalteerde wegen, onze schone huizen, al ons verdiende bezit, ons lief maar ook al ons leed, is eindig. Dit klinkt misschien eng, maar wellicht zit in deze eindigheid juist datgene wat het leven zo mooi maakt.
Het is complex om je blikveld te verruimen, dus vonden we het een goed idee om contact te leggen met verschillende culturen. Het is niet genoeg om erover te lezen, het is essentieel om jezelf in een andere realiteit te plaatsen. We hebben in Marokko en Mexico gewerkt, en nu zijn we naar India geweest, in een poging om universele menselijke concepten te begrijpen. Om te begrijpen hoe ze invloed hebben op onze beslissingen en ambities, en de manier waarop we met elkaar communiceren en empathie voelen voor de mensen om ons heen.
Choreografen Roni Haver, Guy Weizman en Ashley Lobo, de dansers, en de muzikanten gaan in Fortune ieder op hun eigen manier op zoek naar de betekenis van het wonderlijke en vluchtige geschenk van het leven. Het resultaat is een dansvoorstelling als een road movie door India, waarin ‘the wonder of life’ wordt uitgebeeld door een aaneenschakeling van beelden, indrukken en momenten.
De muziek in Fortune is geïnspireerd op het dynamische en (kleur)rijke India. De slagwerkers van Slagwerk Den Haag bespelen Indiase instrumenten zoals de sarod en de tabla. Via een open call zijn Indiase componisten uitgenodigd hun muziek in te sturen. Onder andere met deze tracks, en soundbites uit Dharavi – een van de grootste sloppenwijken van Mumbai – is de muziek voor de voorstelling gecomponeerd.
Na Happiness, Phobia, Freiheit, LOVE en Freedom is Fortune een volgende voorstelling in de serie The Human Odyssey, waarin Club Guy & Roni samen met internationale artistieke partners onderzoekt hoe onze emoties onze levens bepalen

How do you find meaning when nothing lasts forever? Where do you seek happiness when being happy is “just the way you feel” at any given moment? How do you live in the here and now when the next challenge lies just around the corner?
The universal law of change is that nothing stays the same. Our neatly asphalted roads, beautiful houses, accumulated possessions, love, suffering, all are finite. Frightening though it might seem, perhaps it’s this impermanence that makes life so amazing. The dance performance Fortune is the result of a fascination with this impermanence that is inherent of nature.
Expanding your horizons is not easy, so we thought it was a good idea to reach out to different cultures. It’s not enough to read about them; it’s essential to put yourself in another reality. We’ve worked in Morocco and Mexico, and now we were in India. It’s really interesting to explore the concept of fortune, both from a eurocentric and an Indian viewpoint.
In Fortune the choreographers Roni Haver, Guy Weizman, Ashley Lobo, the dancers and the musicians each in their own way go in search of the meaning of the wonderful gift of life. The result is a dance performance that travels through India like a road movie, illustrating the wonder of life with a chain of images, impressions, and moments.
The music in Fortune is inspired by the rich colours of India. The percussionists of Slagwerk Den Haag play Indian instruments such as the sarod and tabla, and an open call was held inviting Indian composers to send in their work. The music for the performance is composed using these tracks and soundbites from Dharavi, one of Mumbai’s biggest slums.
After Happiness, Phobia, Freiheit, LOVE, and Freedom, Fortune is the next performance in the series The human odyssey, in which Club Guy & Ronnie works with international artistic partners to explore how our emotions determine our lives.
