De solisten van Amsterdam Sinfonietta komen dit seizoen met iets wel heel bijzonders: een muziektheaterproductie voor acteur, strijkkwartet en film.
The Book of Water
The Book of Water is een muziektheaterproductie voor acteur, strijkkwartet en film, gebaseerd op de novelle De mens treedt op in het Holoceen van Max Frisch. In hun bewerking van het boek leggen Michel van der Aa en dramaturge Madelon Kooijman speciale nadruk op de aanhoudende regen en overstromingen die de hoofdpersoon Geiser van de buitenwereld afzonderen. Door deze gevaarlijke weersomstandigheden sluit het werk nauw aan bij de actuele klimaatcrisis.
Nieuwe muziek Michel van der Aa
Niet alleen Geisers geheugen gaat steeds verder achteruit; ook zijn omgeving brokkelt af door de stortbuien die het landschap teisteren, aardverschuivingen veroorzaken en alles onder water zetten. In een interactieve ervaring met nieuwe muziek van de Nederlandse componist Michel van der Aa reageren de personages in videoprojecties op de fysiek aanwezige acteur en musici en andersom, waardoor een wisselwerking ontstaat met de mise-en-scène op het toneel.

The soloists of Amsterdam Sinfonietta are coming up with something very special this season: a music theatre production for actor, string quartet and film.
The Book of Water
The Book of Water is a music theatre production for actor, string quartet and film, based on the novella De mens treedt op in het Holoceen by Max Frisch. In their adaptation of the book, Michel van der Aa and dramaturge Madelon Kooijman place special emphasis on the persistent rain and floods that isolate the main character Geiser from the outside world. Due to these dangerous weather conditions, the work is closely related to the current climate crisis.
New music Michel van der Aa
Not only Geiser’s memory continues to deteriorate; his environment is also crumbling due to the downpours that ravage the landscape, causing landslides and flooding everywhere. In an interactive experience with new music by the Dutch composer Michel van der Aa, the characters react in video projections to the physically present actor and musicians and vice versa, creating an interaction with the mise-en-scene on stage.
