Het Trio Shaham Erez Wallfisch komt al jaren in Leiden. Waarom we ze steeds weer terugvragen? Simpel: omdat hun concerten steeds weer een ware sensatie zijn, waarbij niet de musici, maar de componisten altijd op de eerste plek staan.

Violist Hagai Shaham, pianist Arnon Erez en cellist Rafael Wallfisch hadden ieder afzonderlijk een succesvolle solo-carrière toen ze in 2009 besloten samen een vast pianotrio te beginnen. Zij vonden elkaar in hun benadering van de muziek: als musici staan zij in dienst van de componist. Enige ijdelheid en egocentrisme is hun vreemd, niets staat de muziek in de weg. Het resultaat: vloeiende klanken, alsof balans brengen tussen piano, viool en cello (een van de moeilijkste opgaven in de kamermuziek) hen geen enkele moeite kost. Hun spel is natuurlijk, eerlijk en op een prachtige manier eenvoudig. En het mooie is: het resultaat van die eenvoud en bescheidenheid is overdonderend en grandioos.
Grieg, Mendelssohn en Beethoven
Met muziek van Grieg en Mendelssohn brengt het trio onvervalste negentiende-eeuwse romantiek. Met Beethovens Aartshertogtrio laten ze horen waar het voor deze componisten respectievelijk zeventig en veertig jaar daarvoor begon, Beethoven is na Haydn een van de oervaders van het pianotrio.

Violinist Hagai Shaham, pianist Arnon Erez and cellist Rafael Wallfisch each had successful solo careers when they decided to start a fixed piano trio together in 2009. They found each other in their approach to music: as musicians they serve the composer. Vanity and egocentrism are strange to them, nothing stands in the way of the music. The result: flowing sounds, as if balancing the piano, violin and cello (one of the most difficult tasks in chamber music) was effortless for them. Their game is natural, fair and beautifully simple. And the great thing is: the result of that simplicity and modesty is overwhelming and grandiose.
Grieg, Mendelssohn and Beethoven
With music by Grieg and Mendelssohn, the trio brings genuine nineteenth-century romanticism. With Beethoven’s Archduke Trio they show where it all started for these composers seventy and forty years prior respectively. After Haydn, Beethoven is one of the primeval fathers of the piano trio.
