Pieter Wispelwey & Paolo Giacometti
Koffieconcert: Ravel, Chopin, Bosmans, Brahms
Er gaat geen concertseizoen in de Stadsgehoorzaal voorbij zonder dat Pieter Wispelwey en Paolo Giacometti komen spelen. Want met hun fenomenale samenspel en karakteristieke muzikale persoonlijkheden die werkelijk van het podium spatten weten zij ons elke keer weer volledig voor zich te winnen.
Pieter Wispelwey & Paolo Giacometti
Pieter Wispelwey is sinds zijn doorbraak in de jaren ’90 een van de belangrijkste cellisten, niet alleen in Nederland, maar wereldwijd. Met een zeer persoonlijke benadering neemt hij net zo lief de muziek van Bach – waarmee hij een bijzondere band heeft – als het grote romantische repertoire onder handen. Bij Wispelwey is geen concert hetzelfde, de muziek klinkt elke keer weer vers en nieuw, alsof die ter plekke door de componist wordt ingefluisterd.
Paolo Giacometti is niet zozeer Wispelweys pianobegeleider, maar een gelijkwaardige muzikale grootmacht. De Italiaanse pianist die inmiddels al lang als Nederlander door het leven gaat, is volledig aan Wispelwey gewaagd. Dat zorgt elke keer weer voor vuurwerk op het podium van de Aalmarktzaal.
Brahms, Bosmans, Ravel en Chopin
De muziek van Brahms ligt het duo zeer na aan het hart. De warme diepte die zij naar boven weten te halen uit de noten van de Weense componist is als balsem voor de ziel. Met de muziek van Bosmans, Ravel en Chopin verkennen zij een wat lichtere klankwereld. Want hoewel Bosmans een Nederlandse componiste was, is haar muziek Frans georiënteerd. Dat uit zich in een lichtheid en bijna impressionistische beeldende muziek. Ravel luisterde voor Kaddish duidelijk naar de voorzangers uit de synagoge, maar zijn klankwereld blijft Frans. En Chopin was weliswaar geboren pool, maar hij ontwikkelde zich in Parijs eigenlijk tot een van de meest geliefde Franse componisten.

Pieter Wispelwey & Paolo Giacometti
Since his breakthrough in the 1990s, Pieter Wispelwey has been one of the most important cellists, not only in the Netherlands, but worldwide. With a very personal approach, he takes on the music of Bach – with whom he has a special bond – as well as the large romantic repertoire. Not a single Wispelwey concert is the same, the music sounds fresh and new every time, as if whispered by the composers themselves.
Paolo Giacometti is not so much Wispelwey’s piano accompanist, but an equal musical superpower. The Italian pianist, who has been living as a Dutchman for a long time, is evenly matched with Wispelwey. This results in fireworks every time on the stage of the Aalmarktzaal.
Brahms, Bosmans, Ravel and Chopin
The music of Brahms is very close to the heart of the duo. The warm depth that they manage to bring out of the notes of the Viennese composer does wonders for the soul. With the music of Bosmans, Ravel and Chopin they explore a somewhat lighter sound world. Because although Bosmans was a Dutch composer, her music is French-oriented. This is expressed in a lightness and almost impressionistic visual music. For Kaddish, Ravel clearly listened to the cantors from the synagogue, but his sound remains French. And though Chopin was born in Poland, he actually developed into one of the most beloved French composers in Paris.
